Journalling reads: When we were living with Nannie Freda and Grampy Andy, we didn’t have many chances to really use the kitchen. Nannie Freda didn’t really like it when we cooked, she always complained about the mess even though we cleaned up afterwards. Mostly I think it was just that she considered it HER kitchen and felt that we were intruding by being in it. You have always been a bit of a picky eater, but Nannie tried to insist we make you eat the things that she cooked. As much as I hate to say it she was not really a very good cook. One of the worst things was her mashed potato which always ended up kind of grey. Whenever her and Grampy were out we took full advantage of the kitchen to cook with you. I don’t really enjoy cooking, but it seemed important to try and include you in doing it. Usually we tried to make simple things like fairy cakes and scones. But when Nannie and Grampy went on holiday for the weekend we had a great time cooking meals and letting you help. We found that one of your favourite tasks was mashing the potatoes. We gave you the masher and the saucepan and sat you at Nannie’s coffee table. You seemed to really like it but your favourite part was adding enough butter to turn it all bright yellow. 28/06/08.
