Journalling reads: One of your favourite things to do in the autumn is collect conkers. It’s usually not that hard to find some at the local parks but the best place to find them seems to be school. For some reason unknown to me, both of you take great delight in filling your pockets with conkers. Big ones, small ones, dull ones, shiny ones it doesn’t seem to matter. It’s kind of sweet to watch you compete over who can be first to collect them all or who can collect the most. You never seem to have any desire to do anything with them once you have them. They just get hoarded all around the house and you fight over which ones belong to each of you. They litter the house long after the leaves have all fallen before eventually I find the shrivelled remains and through them away. I read somewhere that conkers are supposed to keep spiders away, and although it sounds strange you can buy a spray made from conkers for this and we don’t ever seem to see any in the house when you have conkers laying around. Photos taken October 2010.
